Earth Month: Our Commitment to the Planet Part One: Ingredients

Breathtaking beaches, colorful rainforests, over 8 million amazing species…we could go on all day and barely scratch the surface of all the things that make our planet so remarkable. Earth. Is. EVERYTHING. She literally gives us life! But let’s be honest, she’s been through a lot, and she’s often taken for granted. That’s why at Better Than Milk, we don’t just celebrate Earth Day—we keep the party going for an entire month dedicated to Mama Earth! Of course, we also understand how important it is to stay committed to protecting her year-round. We take pride in being an environmentally-conscious company on a mission:

To create a variety of Plant-Based Milks that are so wholesome, so creamy, so YUM that they’ll earn a permanent spot in your pantry.
To reduce our carbon footprint and combat global warming while we’re at it!

So to kick off Earth Month, here’s an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at our role in taking care of this gorgeous blue planet we call home!

Plant-Based & Renewable Ingredients

All of our Better Than Milk Oat Milk, Rice Milk, and Almond Milk are organic, Non-GMO Project Verified, gluten-free, dairy-free, and 100% vegan—making them better for the body, the earth, and all of the creatures who live on it. Helping animals and lowering greenhouse gas emissions are top priorities in the process of making these plant-based milks! Plus, plant-based milks are easier on those with sensitive stomachs compared to dairy milk¹. Our drinks are made with renewable, locally-sourced ingredients:

Oats

We use pure, naturally gluten-free oats grown on organic self-sustaining organic farms in Finland and Denmark.

Almonds

Our almonds come from the sunny island of Sicily, Italy. Unlike other almond drinks that tend to source their almonds from non-organic California farms, our almonds are grown organically and without the use of pesticides, which harm bees. Because the farms we work with are organic this saves water and helps to maintain healthy bee colonies!

Rice

We get our rice from organic farms in the beautiful plains of Northern Italy. Because these farms don’t use pesticides, they prevent any water run-off from the rice fields from polluting the local streams! Again, saving water and maintaining healthy, happy bees.

Hazelnuts

Our fresh hazelnuts are organically farmed in the Lazio region of Italy near Rome.

All of these local ingredients and water require less transportation, so we can leave a smaller impact on the environment while supporting local organic farms. And because these farms are dedicated to composting and on-site water replenishment, they save TONS of water!

Ahhh…Fresh Italian Spring Water

Top-quality, plant-based renewable ingredients? Check. Now to pair them with some of the purest water Mama Earth has to offer! The water that goes into each of our drinks comes from a natural spring that flows down the Lessini Mountains of Italy, nearly 1,500 feet above sea level. It doesn’t get much fresher than that! Bonus: the water streams directly into our facility, helping to reduce emissions caused by transportation. Score!
